This is a piece of generative music based on the Fibonacci sequence. By leveraging the synthesis capabilities of Max and VCV Rack 2, I created this piece of music designed to loop endlessly with a golden ratio structure. "Ancora" blends harmonious melodies and unpredictable rhythms, aiming to give listeners a calming and relaxing listening experience that will make people want to listen over and over again. This work is an exploration of the application of the golden section to audio, and showcases the beautiful intersection between music and mathematics.

CONCEPT
Created by Italian mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci, Fibonacci Sequence has been inspired by rabbit breeding, and also been known as Golden Section Sequence. The use of the Fibonacci Sequence in works of art is not new, with some of the most famous works in history, including the classic Mona Lisa, the iconic French Eiffel Tower and many more using its principle of Golden Section, whose ratio can be found in everything in nature, from atoms to unimaginable celestial bodies. The Fibonacci Sequence is balanced and comfortable to look at, which is why it is applied so much in art.
Exploring the beauty behind the Golden Section “Fibonacci Sequence”, we raise questions that what will the audio sound applying the golden ratio be like? And how can we make the audio more delightful? With this intention, we have combined Max and VCV Rack 2 to experiment and create a piece of generative music based on the Fibonacci Sequence named “Ancora”. The word is taken from the Italian musical vocabulary and means “to play again”. It fits perfectly with the definition of Fibonacci’s principle of rabbit breeding. Meanwhile, our music is an infinite cycle of melodies with unpredictable rhythm with a general style of serenity and relaxation, since we want it to immerse the listeners and make them desire to listen to it again and again. With the music, the listeners will calm down, release their pressure, and close their eyes to experience the unique melodies generated by Fibonacci Sequence with its distinct and clear tone. Applying the perfect tuning of the sound expression in Max and VCV Rack 2, we have produced harmonies that are beyond the reach of any performer. Besides, this generative music is permanently looping, but each of our arbitrary cuts follows the Golden Section, with a full intro, chorus and outro.
